Despite the fact that Togliatti has existed since the first half of the 18th century, there are almost no historical buildings in the city. The fact is that in the 1950s, due to the construction of a hydroelectric power station and the creation of the Kuibyshev reservoir, the "Old City" was flooded, residents were moved to a new, higher place, and all quarters were rebuilt. The most ancient buildings are structures of the Stalinist classicism era and several houses that have been moved from the former urban area.

What can attract the attention of a tourist in Togliatti? Of course, everything related to the history of the industrial giant - Avtovaz and domestic transport, as well as the complex of structures of the Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power station - the pinnacle of engineering thought for its time. It will be interesting to look at the exhibits of the Technical Museum, take a walk around the square. Svoboda or on the territory of the Shlyuzovoy village.

In addition to cars, railway and military equipment (tanks, helicopters, ships, armored vehicles), the exposition presents samples of weapons from the First and Second World Wars, as well as models of spacecraft, submarines and engineering equipment.

Museum of JSC "Avtovaz"

Until recently, the exposition of the Museum of JSC "Avtovaz" was part of the Technical Museum. Now it is a separate collection, housed in the building of the Corporate University of the company. It consists of models that have been produced at the enterprise since its inception. Here you can see the first "kopeck" - Fiat124, painfully familiar to "Niva", "Prior", "Grant", as well as exotic specimens specially created for racing, passing difficult routes, scientific research.

Victory Park

The park zone has been located on the territory of the Avtozavodsky district since the 1970s. Within its limits, a memorial has been erected in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Victory, and the Eternal Flame is burning. Also throughout the park there are memorial plaques with the names of soldiers and military equipment. For visitors, alleys are laid along which benches are placed. In the evenings, the area is well lit thanks to the many lanterns, which is convenient for late walks.

Freedom Square

It was from this square that the mass development of Togliatti began (at that time the city was called Stavropol). The main components of its architectural ensemble are buildings erected in the style of Stalinist classicism: administrative buildings, residential buildings, a puppet theater, built in the 1950-60s. In the center of the square there is an obelisk of Glory dedicated to the heroes of the Revolution and the Second World War.

Monument to Tatishchev

VN Tatishchev is an outstanding scientist, statesman, historian and founder of many Ural cities. In 1737 he founded Togliatti. A monument in honor of this extraordinary person was erected on the shore of the Kuibyshev reservoir in the late 1990s. The statue is an equestrian statue of Tatishchev, placed on a 14-meter pedestal. Citizens raised funds for the monument.

Monument of Devotion

The monument is located in the Avtozavodsky district in the courtyard of a residential quarter. It is dedicated to a dog named "Faithful" (with the light hand of local reporters), who survived an accident and for 7 years waited on the track for his deceased owners. Local residents tried to take the dog home more than once, but it kept coming back to the road. After the death of the animal in 2003, a touching monument was erected in his honor with money from the townspeople.

"History of Transport"

A sculptural composition installed in the late 1970s. It represents models of transport structures of the early 20th century: a steam locomotive, a balloon and a paddle steamer. All parts are made of metal using forging, welding and casting techniques. The devices are placed on concrete pedestals. The composition can be considered a successful example of Soviet avant-garde art; its appearance is really impressive.

Memorial complex "City Creators"

The sculptural composition was installed in one of the central squares of the city in the 2000s. It consists of the figure of Nicholas the Wonderworker sitting on a stone and a bell tower in the form of a wall with arches, placed behind the saint. The area around the monument is paved with tiles, there are flower beds, lanterns and benches around. The local sculptor A.I.Rukavishnikov was the author of the idea for the memorial.

Togliatti Museum of Local Lore

The museum started working in the 1960s. For several decades, more than 60 thousand exhibits have accumulated in its funds, which formed the basis of dozens of interesting collections that give an idea of the history and culture of the region. Since 1979, the institution has been located on the first floor of a residential building, on Lenin Boulevard. Collections of furniture of the 18th-19th centuries, old coins and rare household items, which are 150-200 years old, are of the greatest interest to visitors.

Togliatti Art Museum

The institution opened in the 1980s. The occasion was the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the city. Its funds contain more than 9 thousand paintings, graphic drawings, sculptures and objects of decorative and applied art. Most of the exhibits belong to modern trends relevant for the XX-XXI centuries. The museum exhibits works by local artists, children's drawings, Soviet-era art objects, and even Chinese graphics.

Museum complex "Heritage"

The collection is located on the territory of the Starikovs' house. This is a wooden building, which in 1953 was moved from the lands flooded by the Kuibyshev reservoir. The exposition is closely related to the relocation of people to the high-rise buildings of the new Togliatti, from old dwellings that have irrevocably gone under water. Many took with them familiar items: cast-iron irons, wooden cradles, spinning wheels, old turntables - all this can be seen today in Heritage.

Drama Theater "Wheel"

The theater was created in 1988 in a rather unusual format - performances and actors lived in the same building. Of course, classical projects were not suitable for these purposes, so a functional Soviet building was chosen for the stage. It was repaired, refurbished and performances began. Today in the repertoire you can see everyone's favorite classical pieces, works of the 20th century and modern works.

Puppet theater "Pilgrim"

Founded in 1973, the puppet theater is located in a building in 1958 on pl. Freedom (it is ranked among the architectural monuments). The building was erected in the style of Stalinist classicism, which is characterized by significant simplifications of the reference forms of this style while maintaining the general appearance. The entrance is decorated with a Greek portico with massive columns, instead of traditional arches and stucco, there are simple rectangular windows and smooth walls.

Transfiguration Cathedral

The majestic cathedral with the main dome height of 63 meters rises above the straight rows of high-rise buildings in the Avtozavodsky district and is immediately striking. This is not even a temple, but a whole complex that occupies an impressive territory and consists of several parts. It was erected in the 1990s with the active participation of Avtovaz (the company acted as the general sponsor of the construction work). The diocese plans to build a bell tower with an observation deck.

Resurrection monastery

The monastery was founded in 1997 by a resolution of the Synod. It arose on the basis of an Orthodox parish that had existed since 1996. The community is located on the territory of the building of the Stavropol Zemstvo Hospital, erected at the beginning of the 20th century (it was moved from the flooded site to a new part of the city in the mid-1950s). The monastery also owns the temples of the Resurrection of Christ and St. Silouan the Athonite.

Annunciation skete

The temple complex of the mid-19th century, built by the landowner N.F.Bakhmetev in the hope of recovering his seriously ill wife Varvara. In the 1930s, the skete, like many churches, was closed and converted into a club and a shop. In the 1980s, its restoration began: the building was re-plastered, the walls were painted, the floors were laid with marble tiles, and the domes were returned to the roof. Divine services were resumed in 1989.

Building ensemble of the Shlyuzovoy village

A complex of buildings from the middle of the 20th century, consisting of residential buildings and administrative buildings, which was built on the banks of the navigable canal. The quarter occupies three streets: Nosova, Nikonov and Shluzovaya. All houses are made with obvious architectural excesses and are decorated with columns, decorative elements, arches, porticoes. Despite the emergency state of many structures, the area is considered one of the most beautiful places in Togliatti.

Komsomolsky District Culture and Leisure Park

A small cozy park in the central part of the city, more attuning to unity with nature than to standard entertainment (there are practically none of them here, except for the play area for children). In Soviet times, this place was popular with young people because of the dance floor. Today, guests can stroll through the green paths or attend a musical evening to listen to a live orchestra.

Fanny park

The park was set up at the expense of Avtovaz together with the Avtozavodsky district in the 1980s. It was created as a classic amusement park. Since 2005, they began to modernize and improve it, as a result of which a lot of modern entertainment appeared: water and extreme slides, swimming pools and much more. Also, a petting zoo and an exhibition of exotic butterflies were opened on the territory.

Garibaldi Castle in Khryashchevka

The hotel complex, stylized as a Gothic castle, standing on the shore of the Kuibyshev reservoir. It was built in compliance with all the canons of the style: an abundance of pointed arches, towers with spiers, large stone walls, stained glass windows, decorative figurines of gargoyles and other attributes of the genre. On the platform in front of the entrance there are figures of knights and a royal couple - they seem to meet guests who have climbed a wide staircase to the fortress wall.

Zhigulevskaya HPP

A hydroelectric power plant on the Volga, built in the 1950s. This was one of the most ambitious projects of the Soviet government - the great construction of communism. To implement it, they resettled an entire city and flooded vast territories. Today, after the reconstruction, the hydroelectric power station is the second largest in Europe. Electricity generation is only increasing every year.

Locks of the Zhigulevskaya HPP

Hydroelectric power station locks are wide navigable canals in which, with the help of special mechanisms, the water level is lowered and raised for the passage of river transport. Filling or draining takes an average of 8 minutes. The dams, walls and ancillary structures of the locks are constructed of strong reinforced concrete. Highways and railways are laid on top.

Fedorovskie meadows

Fedorovskie Meadows, located on the banks of the Volga, is the site of the famous Grushinsky Festival. During this event, tents for guests and performers are set up throughout the territory, surrounded by green fields and trees. Perhaps, the meadows can be called the most picturesque place in the vicinity of Togliatti - it is not for nothing that nature lovers and hikers come here in summer, who want to relax against the backdrop of pacifying landscapes.

Samarskaya Luka

A bend of the Volga, enclosed between the Saratov and Kuibyshev reservoirs and enveloping the Zhigulevskie mountains. This is a unique natural area with partly mountainous relief (although the maximum height is only about 400 meters), almost vertical cliffs and clearly delineated slopes. Most of Samarskaya Luka is a flat plateau with many lakes.

Volga river

You can talk endlessly about the Volga and its beauties. In the Togliatti region, it spills over into a wide reservoir and turns into the endless Zhiguli Sea. Although the reservoir has an artificial origin, this fact does not negate the beauty of the shores, the amazing color of the water surface in sunny weather and the feeling of the all-consuming power of the elements.
