The route of the excursion is read near the bus station, where regular buses from Moscow, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Rybinsk, Gavrilov Yama and Makariev (Pochtovy lane) stop. From here, along Moskovskaya Street, you need to walk 0.5 km towards the city center, to the entrance to the territory of the Fedorovsky Monastery.

The ancient monastery was founded more than 700 years ago as a male monastery, and since the 17th century there has been a female monastery. The monastery is active and receives pilgrims and tourists every day. Its territory is very well-groomed. In summer it has a lot of flowers and the paths are always cleanly swept. Most of the monastery churches have been restored, and it is allowed to take photographs and videos everywhere, with the exception of photographing nuns.

The monastery houses the beautiful Fedorovsky Cathedral, built in the middle of the 16th century. It is curious that Tsar John IV the Terrible was present at its consecration. On the right side of the entrance gate to the monastery, you can see a picturesque 17th century chapel built in honor of Fyodor Stratilat. The relatively small monastery territory also accommodates the Vvedenskaya and Kazan churches (18th century), brick cells for nuns, a rector's building, a hotel and a regency house. For those wishing to visit the monastery, excursions are organized.

The next point of the excursion, the famous Dendrological Garden, can be reached along Moskovskaya Street or along the Zhuravleva Street laid nearby. The entrance to the territory of the Dendrological Garden is located on it - st. Zhuravleva, 1B.

On the "Path of Fairy Tales" on the territory of the Dendrological Garden

The vast green area covers 58 hectares and is one of the striking sights of the ancient city. Thanks to the work of several generations of scientists and gardeners, plants from all over the world have been planted here. It is a pleasant place to walk. It is noteworthy that the park zone is divided on a hill, and from here you can clearly see both the large Pleshcheyevo lake and the Pereslavl-Zalessky quarters. For children, an interesting interactive route "The Path of Fairy Tales" has been laid in the garden. You can get to the park area from May to October, any day of the week.

Sretenskaya church

From the entrance to the Dendrological Garden, you need to return to Moskovskaya Street and walk along it to the Sretenskaya Church. The picturesque snow-white temple is located on a hill and is therefore visible from afar. It was built in the second half of the 18th century and is a perfectly preserved example of provincial classicism. The church is active and is open daily in the morning - from 8.00 to 14.00. At other times, you can admire the temple only from the outside. The large blue dome is hemispherical. From the south and north, the entrances to the temple are framed by traditional classical porticoes with four columns.

It is not far from Sretensky Church to another ancient monastery, which has stood in the city for more than five centuries. Holy Trinity Danilov Monastery was founded in the first half of the 16th century. From Moskovskaya Street, st. Small Peasant. The territory of the monastery is surrounded by a white stone wall and is open to visitors any day from 8.00 to 20.00. Over the past two decades, large-scale restoration work has been carried out in the monastery, and today the ancient temples look great.

There is something to see in the monastery! The oldest surviving building is the Trinity Cathedral (1530). A slender tent-roofed bell tower and a small church dedicated to the founder of the monastery, the Monk Daniel, are attached to the majestic one-domed church. Inside the cathedral, unique 17th century frescoes have been preserved, created by the talented iconographers of their time, Guriy Nikitin and Sila Savin.

Nearby are the churches of All Saints and the Praise of the Mother of God, as well as the Fraternal Corps, built in the 17th century. The latest of the stone buildings appeared in the monastery at the end of the 19th century. This is the gate church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God.

View of the Goritsky Monastery

From the monastery you need to return to Moskovskaya Street, cross it and walk along Podgornaya Street to Muzyechny Lane (about 0.7 km). A picturesque view of the walls and domes of one of the most beautiful architectural monuments of the Golden Ring of Russia - the Goritsky Monastery opens up from here. Museum lane is not asphalted, so during the off-season and after rains it can be quite dirty here. But in good weather, it is easy to get out from here to the entrance to the monastery territory (Museum lane, 4). Most tourists get to the entrance to the monastery along the asphalted Moskovsky Lane, which starts on Moskovskaya Street.

Historical, architectural and art museum-reserve located on the territory of the Goritsky monastery

Today the territory of the Goritsky Monastery belongs to the city museum-reserve - one of the largest Russian museums. One day is not enough to get around all its permanent and temporary exhibitions. In the "Silver Pantry", objects of decorative and applied art of the 16th-19th centuries from the monastery vestries are exhibited. At the exhibition "Wreath for estates" you can see interior items and decor of old noble estates. Ancient Russian icon painting, wooden sculpture and Russian painting of the 18th-20th centuries are exhibited in the halls of the museum-reserve. There is also a local history exhibition telling about the history of Pereslavl-Zalessky.

Alexander Nevsky Museum

One of the interesting memorial collections of the museum-reserve is dedicated to the outstanding Russian painter Dmitry Nikolaevich Kardovsky (1866-1943), a native of the Pereslavl district of the Yaroslavl region. The artist lived his last years in Pereslavl-Zalessky and was buried on the territory of the Goritsky monastery. In addition to paintings and graphic works, in the halls of the museum you can see the artist's personal belongings and furniture from his estate.

Opposite the entrance to the territory of the Goritsky Monastery, the Alexander Nevsky Museum is located in a small wooden house. It was opened in 2012. In the halls of the museum there is a volumetric model of Pereslavl-Zalessky of the 12th century, as well as paintings, icons, orders and medals, which depict Alexander Nevsky. The museum receives visitors every day, except Mondays, from 10.00 to 17.00.

The mansion of D.N. Kardovsky

On the territory of the Goritsky Monastery, the tour of Pereslavl-Zalessky ends. From this place it is necessary to return to the bus station, from where the travel route around the city began. The way back takes a little less than half an hour (1.7 km) and runs along Moskovskaya Street. You can walk to the bus station or use minibuses that regularly take tourists to the Goritsky Monastery.

On the way back, you should pay attention to the house No. 30A on Moskovskaya Street, where the mansion of D.N. Kardovsky. In 1957, the artist's daughter handed over the family estate for the House of Creativity of Artists and Sculptors. There are workshops and an exhibition hall here. Nowadays, a hotel is located in a two-story building on the territory of the House of Creativity.
