View of the buildings of the Uglich Kremlin

Nowadays, the ancient part of Uglich looks completely different from what it was several centuries ago. Only a few buildings and temples are left of the powerful fortress, but they look great. Temple of Tsarevich Demetrius on the Blood, the rebuilt building of the Epiphany Cathedral and two floors of old Chambers of Uglich princes belong to the Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

The Kremlin houses handwritten and early printed books, wooden sculptures, items of priestly vestments, liturgical utensils, old writing utensils and merchant portraits of the 19th century. In a building on st. Yaroslavskaya, 1, 400 meters from the Kremlin, an exposition of works by contemporary artists "Under the protective cover" is exhibited.

In 11 rooms, exhibits about the prisoners of Volgolag are collected, by whose hands the local hydroelectric power station was built.

Visitors can see models of dams, moving models of turbines, an operating crane and a hydroelectric generator in a section. The museum has an exercise bike on which you can generate electricity yourself.

If you come to the city with children, take a look at the unusual museum "Samokat" on Olga Berggolts Street, 3. According to tourists, this is the most fun place in Uglich. The museum contains several dozen models of the past, and some rare bicycles are allowed to ride.

Especially impressive are the vehicles of the 19th century - wooden and forged bicycles. It's nice to look at stylish modern models - walking, sports, for adults and children.

An interesting museum for adults is open in the same building. Collections, which introduce the history of Russian vodka, appeared in the Volga city not by chance. The famous vodka king of Russia, Pyotr Arsenievich Smirnov, was born on the Uglich land.

Tourists are shown different models of moonshine stills, bottles made of glass and ceramics, cups, scales, pre-revolutionary and Soviet stickers and labels. The most curious exhibit is an exact copy of the medal that Peter I awarded to inveterate drunkards. She weighs a lot - 6.8 kg. All guests are offered to try 50 g of Shuya tincture on prunes.

The oldest private museum in Uglich is open at 27 Bakhareva Street. The exposition consists of two sections. The first contains edged weapons, household items, clothing of ancient townspeople, collections of orders, medals and military uniforms of Soviet and German soldiers.

It is very interesting to look at the exact models of the architectural monuments of Uglich - those that have survived to this day and were lost in the 20th century. The second section is devoted to the history of the creation of the museum itself.
