The main airport in Prague, bearing the name of Vaclav Havel since 2012, and formerly called Ruzyne, was put into operation in 1937. The well-chosen site for the construction allowed in 2004 to carry out a major reconstruction, expand the territory and increase the capacity of the terminals. This made it possible to receive more than eleven million passengers a year using the services of fifty airlines.
Airport location and infrastructure
Prague International Airport is located twenty kilometers from the center of Prague in the suburb of Ruzyne. Such a convenient position allows passengers to quickly get to the most interesting historical sites of the Czech capital. There are four terminals in the terminal building: T1 serves passengers arriving or departing to countries outside the Schengen area. T2 is intended for servicing flights from countries of the Schengen area. T3 is used for charter and private flights. T4 is for VIPs arriving with official and private visits to the country on their own or state-owned aircraft.
Passport control
Arriving planes stop right at the exits to the terminals, which is very convenient, since it does not require additional transportation by the bus from the parking lot. Due to the presence of signs, it is not difficult to get to the place of passport control. Queues at the Prague airport are quite rare and occur only during the high tourist season. There are special customer service counters for EU citizens, so Russian citizens should pay attention to this so as not to waste time waiting.
After passing through passport control, passengers go to the baggage claim area, after receiving which, they can go to the exit from the airport terminal. It should be borne in mind that customs officers have the right to check the contents of hand luggage after it has been handed over to the owner. This is a common procedure that should not be feared, much less rude or resistance to airport officials.
