The weather in Vietnam in May is unlikely to appeal to tourists. It is from this month that the large-scale wet season begins. Cold fronts come from the north, the indispensable attributes of which are prolonged rains and low air temperatures. In most resort cities, tourism practically stops.

It would seem, who might like a trip that almost completely excludes the possibility of a beach holiday? But there is one good advantage, which is that tour operators, in order to maintain interest in this Asian region, offer "last-minute" tours at low prices. Therefore, if you can do without swimming and have always wanted to visit Vietnam, the May tours will suit your taste.

Since May is only the beginning of the wet season, there is no need to talk about a large amount of precipitation. And in the central regions of the country, you can still enjoy the last days of the dry period.

Weather in the north of the country

The northern regions of the country are the first to receive the blow of cold winds and heavy rains. The amount of precipitation increases almost daily, and the total number reaches 200 mm by the end of the month. As a rule, in the first half of the month, warm days give way to rainy ones, so there is still an opportunity to enjoy boat trips and numerous excursions. The air temperature is kept at the level of 25-32 degrees above zero, and sometimes you even get the opportunity to swim in the sea waters.

The largest amount of precipitation falls in Hanoi, and the number of rainy days rises to 8-9 per month. At the same time, the air temperature still continues to meet the parameters comfortable for tourism. Depending on the weather, during the month from 100 to 210 mm of precipitation falls here. As you can see, in Hanoi, this period can be confidently called a transitional period.

The May climate in Halong will be somewhat different. Against the background of high air temperatures (up to 33 degrees!), It often rains in the vicinity of the resort. Although the peak of the wet season is in August.

Weather in central Vietnam

In the middle part of the country, full-fledged hot weather sets in. Here, with rare exceptions, the dry season lasts for several more days, which allows tourists to enjoy good conditions for a beach holiday. The water temperature near the coast reaches 27 degrees Celsius, and the rains are not systematic and pass quickly. The maximum level of precipitation during the month is 100 mm.

It turns out that for tourists who primarily go to the country for a beach vacation, it is the central resorts that are best suited.

Weather in the south of Vietnam

As in the north of the country, in the southern regions in May the dry season gives way to the wet one. The amount of precipitation here increases sharply and easily reaches an average monthly mark of 220-230 mm. The air humidity rises to 80%, although the temperature remains high (up to 35 degrees). If you decide to spend your May vacation in the south of the country, you should know that almost all precipitation falls in the afternoon. This will allow you to more rationally plan your time and diversify your vacation with boat trips and excursions.

But with all this, in this region you can find a resort that is going through a transitional period. For example, Nha Trang, which is distinguished by high water and air temperatures, as well as low precipitation (only 50-55 mm).

Decent conditions for a beach holiday are offered by the resorts of Muina, Phan Thiet, Phu Quoc Island. It rains here relatively rarely, and the ambient temperature allows you to feel quite comfortable while on the beach.

This is how the weather appears to tourists in Vietnam in May.

I propose to get acquainted with Vietnam in more detail.
