History and description

One attraction that is visited by almost everyone who has been in the capital is Jurong Bird Park, the largest in Asia. It is located in the industrial area of ​​the capital Jerong. The territory of 20 hectares is home to 5000 birds of 380 species. The park appeared thanks to Mr. Goh Keng Swee, the Minister of Finance of Singapore. In the late 60s, the doctor visited the zoo in Rio de Janeiro, and was amazed at the huge aviaries where the birds were. They lived as close to natural conditions as possible.

Returning to his homeland, Mr. Goh Keng Swee decided to organize a place where people would have the opportunity to connect with nature and relax their souls. He applied for funds for the construction of the park, the state allocated them (more than 3 million Singapore dollars) and construction began. The grand opening of the Jurong Bird Park took place in 1971. But until recently it has been modernized and completed. Since then, the park has been visited by millions of people - local residents and guests of the capital. Amazing singing and colorful species of birds, exotic plants leave no one indifferent.

Thematic zones

    For the convenience of visitors, the territory is divided into thematic zones, including:

  • penguin coast - in this pavilion the temperature is maintained at 16 ° С. On the territory of 1600 sq. m everything reminds of the habitat of these touching creatures. You can see how they swim from the gallery with a huge panoramic glass
  • lori loft - on an area of ​​3000 sq. m inhabited by 1000 parrots, there are now more than 110 varieties
  • aviary with a waterfall. More than 1,500 bird species from Asia, Africa and America have been collected here and almost 10,000 plants have been planted.
  • the world of darkness is a pavilion in which nocturnal birds live. Lighting was made in the aviary, in which night is created in the daytime, and day at night. Visitors can observe the activity of nocturnal birds during the daytime.
  • in the pavilion of the river bay, an environment for waterfowl has been reproduced - there are collected more than 20 species of ducks, as well as several species of freshwater fish and turtles.
  • there is a lake for swans. Several species of these graceful animals live here - black-necked, black and whooper swan.

In other pavilions, birds of Southeast Asia and the African continent are presented: toucans and hornbills, pelicans, pink flamingos, raptors - eagles, hawks, eagles and many other birds. In the Heliconia Alley, there is a collection center for Heliconia; about 170 species of this exotic flower grow here.

For the convenience of visitors, the park is equipped with a monorail. If you don't want to walk in the park, you can take a tram ride. His route runs through the entire territory, stopping inside each enclosure.

There is a small water playground for children with slides, streams, attractions. If there is time, parents should let their child go to the playground and relax in a nearby cafe and have a cup of coffee. On the territory of the Jorung Bird Park, there are not only plants and animals, here you can admire sculptures, bridges, picturesque fountains and the largest artificial waterfall with a height of 30 m.

Fascinating bird shows are organized every day. The performances are free, but they take place at certain times. To get to them, you need to familiarize yourself with the schedule in advance. The performances are very interesting, with humor and jokes. Feathered artists work with soul - parrots speak foreign languages, play football. Eagles hunt a stuffed hare, and a bald eagle fishes.

Another entertainment is demonstrative bird feeding. When employees bring food to their wards, hundreds of birds flock, surprising visitors with the brightness of their outfits.

How to get to the bird park in Singapore

Navigation in the park is very convenient - signs are installed everywhere, it is impossible to get lost. The park itself, which is half an hour's drive from the city center, is also easy to get to. You can use public transport. By bus from the bus station, which is located near the Boon Lay metro station (green line). Routes 194 and 251 go to the park. In Singapore, transport works well on schedule, so you don't have to wait. The fare is about 1.5 S $. You should be aware that you cannot buy a ticket on the bus, they are sold at the station. Get off at the Jurong Bird Park stop, then walk no more than 5 minutes.

Of course, a taxi is always at the service of tourists - it will turn out to be more expensive (about $ 20S), but the convenience and speed of a taxi is undeniable.
