There are many places on our planet that you want to visit. However, not all of them are interesting to people because of their beautiful views or fascinating history. Catacombs of paris

For many people, Paris is associated only with pleasant and majestic things. It is a city steeped in romance and beauty, and its Eiffel Tower attracts tourists from all over the world. However, few people know that among the sights of Paris there is another place that does not fit in with the reputation of the city of love. And these are his Catacombs.

The Catacombs of Paris are a complex system of ancient tunnels, the length of which reaches 300 kilometers. Formerly ordinary quarries, the tunnels are huge labyrinths that are more than three hundred years old. Over the years, the catacombs were used in different ways, but in 1786 the Ossuary was founded here. Wide corridors hundreds of meters long, the walls of which are covered with human remains. About 6 million people have found their rest here, whose bones now adorn this frightening place. The length of the galleries is about 780 meters, which is a test for every visitor to the catacombs.

The history of the creation of the underground necropolis is quite simple. In the eighteenth century, there was a huge cemetery on the territory of Paris, where burials were buried for several centuries. However, it caused many diseases, parasites and other troubles. As a result, the city authorities decided to move it to the old quarries.

Now the catacombs of Paris are open for tourism. Although there are only 2.5 kilometers of tunnels available to visitors, this area has covered the most interesting places. The rest of the catacombs are abandoned or used for other purposes.

Manchak swamps in Louisiana

If you think that swamps are dangerous only because of a huge amount of parasites and bogs, then you are greatly mistaken. Do not forget the notoriety of these places. Among them, the Manchak Swamp Complex, located in Louisiana, is especially gruesome.

This is a very ancient place, which has long been famous for its impassability. However, its other name, "swamps of ghosts", was given to him relatively recently. According to legend, in 1915, several large villages were located near these swamps. Due to one conflict, a woman was held captive here, who was a follower of the Voodoo cult. Out of anger and despair, she cursed this place forever, using her last strength. Just a few days later, a terrible storm came to the swamps, which destroyed the villages and their inhabitants. Since then, only twisted trees have become inhabitants of the swamps.

True or fiction, but people have repeatedly disappeared on the territory of the swamps, and the birds do not fly over them at all. Only there are rumors that werewolves appear here at night and that the souls of the dead periodically rise.

Organized Suicide Forest in Japan

Japan is one of the leading countries in the number of suicides. That is why it is not surprising that such a terrible place is located in it.

Aokigahara Jukai Forest is quite beautiful and picturesque, located on the slope of the Japanese Mount Fuji. But it seems so only until you meet the gallows in it. However, this is not a decoration or a bad joke, but a real person who committed suicide. This is what this place is known for, also called the Forest of Organized Suicides.

Aokigahara Forest attracts many suicides from all over Japan. The reason for this is the dark glory of this place. There were legends that demons and ghosts live in the forest, which is why in ancient times Japanese families left old people and children here in the hope of their quick death.

About 100 people end their lives in the forest every year. This makes it a very popular tourist destination, although its fame turns off many visitors.

Cane Hill Hospital

The mental hospital is the last place each of us would like to go. Although this place is not as terrible as many people think, the fear of it gnaws at many.

It is this fear that is felt by those who visit the Kane Hill Hospital, located in London. No terrible and mystical legends are associated with it, this is an ordinary medical institution. It is only known that in 1991 all patients and doctors suddenly left the hospital, and the hospital itself was closed. This was done instantly, so all the equipment and papers were left in place.

At first glance, there is nothing terrible here, but this thought passes after the first step into the destroyed building. Everything here is literally saturated with the horror and chaos that was happening in the heads of patients. And not everyone can withstand it.

Centralia, Pennsylvania

The most horrible places in the world have always been man-made. Rumors, curses, man-made structures are their basis. However, sometimes nature contributes to this, which leads to truly dire consequences.

Who thought that the fire could go further, spreading into the coal tunnels. As a result, the entire mine located under the city was on fire. Poveglia island in Italy

The small island of Poveglia, located in the Venetian Lagoon, is one of the region's main dark landmarks. However, it is not written about in magazines or discussed on the streets, because this place is the dark past of Italy. Outwardly looking like an ordinary island, Poveglia is home to tens and hundreds of thousands of souls. Although now it is only an overgrown piece of land with dilapidated buildings, legends about it will exist for a long time.

Initially, the island was a quarantine zone for travelers from distant countries. Although there were deaths here, it was more of a forty-day resort for visitors. However, everything changed after the plague epidemic swept across Europe. Poveglia became a reference for tens of thousands of patients, as well as their families and relatives. The soil here is half ashes, and fishermen sometimes get polished bones from coastal waters.

In addition, the "Gates of Hell", as the island is also called, in the last century became a haven for mentally ill visitors, over whom various experiments were carried out. But now it is completely abandoned, and the guards do not let a single soul here.

Church of St. George

Inconspicuous at first glance, this church is one of the main attractions of the Czech Republic. It is located in the village of Lukovo and has long been abandoned. Despite its fame, excursions are not conducted here, and the last service was held here more than 40 years ago.

This place gained fame not thanks to mysticism or legends, but with the help of the artist Yakub Hadrava. He populated the church with strange sculptures, thereby creating an eternal service. They settled down like the ghosts of former ministers who came to the next prayer. And it looks pretty creepy.

Afar basin

A place called the Afar Basin is located in Ethiopia. And it doesn't compare to the previous positions on this list. There is a really high risk to life here, because in the hollow a person can crash, suffocate or burn alive. And at the same time, it constantly attracts tourists.

The Afar Basin consists of a desert, a salt lake and a river. In addition, the hottest place on earth is located here - Dallol lava lake. Due to the location at the junction of the lithospheric plates, constant eruptions occur here. Mountain of crosses in Latvia

Not always terrible places were originally conceived as such. This also applies to the Hill of Crosses located near the city of Siauliai. The name perfectly reflects everything that you will see in this place - hundreds and thousands of crosses hugging each other. There are so many of them installed here that only a special path for passers-by is a free space.

However, this is not an old cemetery or burial ground. In fact, everything started from the old legend, according to which the one who puts a cross here will find good luck and happiness in life. As a result, so many crosses were erected here that the city that was located here earlier no longer exists.

Although it looks a little intimidating on the outside, the beauty of some of the crosses is mesmerizing. These are unique pieces of art that are regularly updated. After all, tourists who come here leave all new crosses in the hope of an old legend.
